About Windsurf
Windsurf started as Codeium's AI-powered IDE. Cognition (the company behind the autonomous engineer Devin) acquired Windsurf's product, IP, and team in mid-2025, and on June 2, 2026 renamed the editor Devin Desktop — windsurf.com now redirects permanently to devin.ai/desktop. It still ships the Cascade AI agent and intelligent code completion, plus Cognition's own SWE-1.5 coding model and background "cloud session" agents. Existing Windsurf accounts, extensions, and JetBrains plugin keep working, but the JetBrains plugin is in maintenance mode as Cognition pushes users toward running Devin natively inside JetBrains.
